On Saturday I played at the beautiful manor house that is Brympton House (also known as Brympton d'Evercy) in Yeovil. Brympton House and its grounds are absolutely beautiful.
Christopher Hussey, the architect crtic and documentor of British stately homes said of Brympton: "The most incomparable house in Britain, the one which created the greatest impression and summarises so exquisitely English country life qualities".
The original part of the building was erected in 1220 and since then Brympton d'Evercy has belonged to just five families, the d'Evercys, the Sydenhams, the Fanes, the Weeks (from 1992 to 2007) and the most recent owner who purchased the property in 2007.
The property is rented out for weddings and television filming. Wedding parties get full use of the house and grounds. The owner told me they currently hold about 50 weddings a year. I was not playing for a wedding but a private party for the owner's daughter's 21st birthday; I could, however, imagine this being the perfect wedding venue. The owners and organisers are extremely pleasant, kind and easy to work with. I could highly recommend this venue to any prospective Brides and Grooms.
...And one of the great perks of working in this part of the country is you get to call in on Stone Henge on the way home and go for a walk in the beautiful west country's rolling hills.
I hope to be back here soon...
