This Saturday I played at The Four Seasons Intercontinental Hotel in Mayfair, London.
I last played here at a wedding before the huge refurbishment was carried out (the hotel closed for two years) and thought the hotel looked great. It still has that air of elegance when you walk in and everything is pristine. I'm also impressed how they have maintained the more traditional and classical features while implementing the modern updates around them.
This function also included other entertainers such as a husband/wife team who are contortionists who have a very slick contemporary routine perfected. They are both ex Cirque Du Soleil artists and their 25 minute routine left the guests stunned. Something very different for a party!
There was also a specialist Jewish band flown in from Israel. This band seem to make a living playing weddings all over the world as they play all the traditional Jewish music expected at bar mitzvahs and weddings but then convert themselves into one of the best function bands I have heard, performing songs from all the great pop artists such as Elton John, Lionel Ritchie, The Bee Gees etc. They convinced me to join them on stage for two songs during their second set: Bamboleo by The Gipsy Kings and Guantanamera by José Feliciano. This was great fun.
