On Sunday evening I played for an engagement party on the London Eye. When I say "engagement party" I don't mean a party to celebrate a couple's decision to get married but rather I received a phone call from a "hopeful Groom" who wanted to book a capsule on the Eye and invite about 25 friends for some wine and nibbles and then, once at the very top, propose to his girlfriend.
The potential Groom asked me to arrange Something In The Water by Brooke Fraser and Marry You by Bruno Mars for solo guitar and play them so that the second song finished just as we were reaching the highest point of the Eye. As I finished playing Marry You he got on his knees and popped the question.
I'm surprised I have never been asked to arrange Marry You by Bruno Mars before. In fact it had never occurred to me that it could be played in a wedding context - even though the words are perfect (maybe even more perfect for an engagement).
We stayed on the Eye for two rotations (30 minutes each) and wine ad canopés were served by two London Eye catering stewardesses.
If you haven't already been on the London Eye I highly recommend it - the views are spectacular. It's also a pretty good place to propose...
.....and in case you were in any doubt... she said yes!
