Last week I played for a wedding that was held at the beautiful stately home of Woburn Abbey in Bedfordshire. Woburn Abbey is also the home of Woburn Safari Park and dates back to 1145. It has been home to the Dukes of Bedford for over 400 years.
The art collection is amongst the most impressive in the country apparently, and encompasses a wide range of western amasterpieces. The holdings, comprise some 250 paintings, including works by Rubens, Van Dyck, Canaletto and Velasquez. Moreover, the collection encompasses a superlative range of furniture, both French and English, porcelain and silverwork.
I studied History of Art alongside music when I was at college and so have an interest in certain areas of fine art so I arrived early to have a look at a few pieces that are on public display.
The ceremony took place in the Sculpture Gallery and featured the following pieces of music:
Aisle walk: Canon in D by Pachelbel
Signing of the register: Ave Maria by Schubert
Exit of the Bride and Groom: The Arrival Of The Queen Of Sheba by Handel
